MGOCNI Mystery Run 2014

MGOCNI Mystery Run 2014

The morning of Sunday 24th August 2014 dawned bright and sunny and saw 43 members and friends, many suitably bedecked in polka dots, gathering in Linen Hill at The Outlet where we enjoyed a traditional cooked breakfast. After breakfast we headed outside to be told of the first change for the day – the first section had to be changed because of unexpected white line painting on the planned route!

Once in the car park it became clear that even the cars had adopted the polka dot theme with one sporting a spotted coat and another with special spotted seat covers!

Not to be beaten Beryl and Stephen led the assembled MGs, and one visiting Porsche, along a modified version of the route through Banbridge, out to Scarva and along quiet country roads through Poyntzpass and Jerrettspass and onto the mid morning stop at Bessbrook. From Bessbrook the traditional mystery run formal took over with cars setting off at various intervals to find the mystery lunch location and finding the answers to various clues along the way.

How many people stopped to the count the bicycles painted on the pink wall at Belleek rather than the pink bicycles on the railing? We all arrived safely at the Palace Demense for our lunch stop where more polka dots were on display in various picnic sets. After a relaxing break enjoying a chat or a bit of exploring we set off again for a run to the evening meal. Using the traffic lights cars set off again at intervals and of course there were some clues to answer along the way.

Eventually everyone arrived at Sinton’s on the Bridge in Scarva. Following an excellent meal the answers to the clues were revealed and we had four couples all tying for first place, Laurence and Margaret, Trevor and Linda, David and Daphne and Roy and Liz. The winners were decided in the time honoured fashion by tie breaker questions.

The winners getting all the right answers were Trevor and Linda – congratulations!

Finally awards were given to David and Daphne (hope the spots came off the paintwork), Sam and Alison, Noel and Linda and Michael and Joyce for making the greatest effort with the polka dot theme.
