Awards Day September 2013

Last year you may recall I mentioned that this event had been the subject of numerous discussions in recent years as to its interest with members. Numbers attending had been declining and so last year we attempted something different. 

The event was held at ‘The Outlet’ Banbridge and appeared reasonably successful. So this year with a few tweaks we repeated and used the same venue again. Was it a success?

We stared off with a late breakfast at The Ivanhoe Hotel. The presentations this year, like last, were done at The Outlet but this year we organised an evening meal.  n addition to the club cars entered, we had also invited other clubs to come along and support the event. 

All cars, both MG Owner’s Club members and other car clubs were invited to participate in an award for ‘The car you would most like to take home’.  This Award was judged and presented by the centre management.

On Sunday we had a dry day albeit a bit breezy. All in all we had a fair turn out of cars with 19 member cars and 12 from other clubs. The display of cars did attract an interest from the public and everyone seemed pleased with a variation of cars on show. Pauline Nemes, wife of the centre manager, selected an MGB owned by Stanley Clarke, as the car she would most like to take home.

Club awards were presented to:

• Bob Sharpe for Car of the Show – runner up Mervyn Boyd
• Best Attended Club member – Mervyn Boyd
• Most Enjoyable Event – Weekend in Wales organised by the committee with Desie Boyd having the key role.
• Secretary’s Cup – Albert Reid
• McComb Barker Trophy Club Ambassador – Sam Carruthers
• New Award, which is awarded to the member who has assisted other members having mechanical/electrical problems with their cars, the winner was, Alan Caldwell with Alan Smyth.
