Meeting on Sunday 26th August 2018 at the Applegreen Services on the M2 we travelled via Toome to the venue at Springhill House.

This is a 17th-century ‘Plantation’ home, with walled gardens and parkland, full of tempting way marked paths. Tea/coffee was enjoyed before a tour of the house and so much to see.

There are ten generations of Lenox-Conyngham family tales, as well as numerous portraits and much furniture to admire and not forgetting Ireland’s best-documented ghost, Olivia, who Jackie met.

The old laundry houses the celebrated Costume Collection, which features some fine 18th to 20th-century pieces that highlight its great charm and enthralling past. A very enjoyable visit and weather was not as bad as forecast at least in late afternoon.

Leaving Springhill we made the short journey to the ‘Old Thatch’ in Castledawson for the evening meal which was a good experience. Thanks to Deborah and Derek for the arrangements.
