Meeting up at Corrs Corner on Sunday 26th April 2015 the weather more like a day in November but some members still managed to brave it in their MGs.

I was asked some very serious questions during the pre run chat. What is ‘Drive It Day’ and what is an ‘adhoc Run’.

Let me take the easy one, what is Drive It Day?

Drive It Day takes place on Sunday, 26 April and it is the day when we encourage owners of all types of historic vehicles to celebrate our British transport heritage.

The origins of the event date back to 1900 when a 1000 mile trial was organised by Claude Johnson, who later became the managing director of Rolls-Royce. The event was designed to be a stimulus for the British motor industry and to persuade Parliament to support the development and use of self-propelled motorised transport.

What is an ‘adhoc run’?

Ad hoc comes from the Latin words meaning “for this.” Often the term is used as a criticism,in the sensethat something done ad hoc is done hastily and can be ill thought out, serving only to address a problem inthe short term.

Government programs are often described as ad hoc, for example. But the term can also imply a sense of ingenuity, of impromptu brilliance, or of something happily care-free and devoid of fuss.

Like our ad hoc Drive it Day ‘event!

This adhoc run took us to the Rhinka, Islandmagee where ice cream was enjoyed by most of the twenty members out.

This event was organised by Sam C.
